Macro evaluation traditionally was a subjective test. However, through the use of state-of-the-art software, the impact of the human element is significantly reduced which allows for more comparative (objective) results which are repeatable and quantifiable based on international specifications.

This is an evaluation method based on visual analysis through the use of a Stereoscope / Macroscope which allows the competent evaluator to examine the prepared surface which has been polished and etched and then compare what they see to an international testing code (as per the clipart below). Sample preparation is key to a successful evaluation. Hence MTL has acquired fully customized and automated grinding and polishing equipment which reduces the prepatation time whilst maintaining the desired surface finish.
